20 Mar Burrows Toyota Apprenticeship Open Evenings in South Yorkshire
Over the past few weeks, students, parents and guardians attended informative and engaging open evenings at Burrows Toyota dealerships in Rotherham, Sheffield, Barnsley and Doncaster, to learn more about the exciting Search For A Star Apprenticeship Recruitment Programme. Gaia Innovation designed and managed the evening events.
Fascinating insights into a Burrows Toyota apprenticeship included a presentation from the senior leadership team, a workshop tour, staff speeches, and a career speed-networking activity.
Burrows Toyota MD Steve Burrows, and Operations Director Dean Cooper introduced the events, and inspired students with tales of their journeys within the automotive industry leading to their current senior management roles. An engaging #DiscoverToyota ‘true or false’ activity awarded a prize to the last person standing with all the correct answers.
During an insightful workshop tour, the Toyota team revealed interesting components of the Toyota Hybrid CHR using state-of-the-art diagnostic equipment. While parents discussed the programme with the senior leadership team, students participated in a fast-paced career speed-networking session. They rotated around tables of Burrows team members, including managers and current apprentices, and asked about their career paths and how they became successful in their current roles. Students were surprised that many senior managers had started their careers as apprentices.
Students and parents then chatted with the Burrows Toyota team while enjoying a buffet, getting to know the team and ask further questions. Almost all (95%) of the students at each dealership open evening applied to be considered for the next stage of the Burrows Search For A Star Apprentice Recruitment programme.
A Rawmarsh Community School student comments: “I found spending time with the team useful as it allowed me to understand specific roles as an apprentice. I am interested in business and finance, and today has shown me that this is possible at Burrows. This business is also very welcoming and friendly – it seems like an organisation I would like to work for.”
Dean Cooper, Burrows Operations Director concludes: “We are a South Yorkshire based family business that believes in supporting our community. This is underpinned by our strong family values and continuing commitment to develop our people into successful stars for the future. By helping school leavers into the Search for a Star apprenticeship programme, we can continue to build the Burrows team with new stars from our community.”
